10th Mountain Division Back Country Hut Trips
Initially inspired by the late, Fritz Benedict, the 10th Mountain Division Hut System, located between Vail and Aspen in the White River National Forest, was modeled after the European Haute Route and named as a memorial to the 10th Mountain Division ski and mountaineering troops of World War II. The hut system offers terrain variations for all ability levels and provides the most extensive backcountry hut-to-hut skiing experience in North America. The huts are a unique blend of mountain architecture and provide sleeping accommodations for up to 16 people in semi-communal living areas with wood stove heating and cooking, photovoltaic lighting and outhouses.
